Almodovar won the Golden Lion for the film ‘The Room Next Door’.

Pedro Almodovar won the prestigious Golden Lion for his film ‘The Room Next Door‘ at the 81st Venice Film Festival on Saturday night. Nye marks a significant achievement, as this is his first English Vaye Award for Jashar feature film of Almodovar. The film stars Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore, and explores deep themes surrounding euthanasia and the complexities of female friendship.

Almodovar is the best producer

During the festival, ‘The Room Next Door’ received a remarkable 17-minute standing ovation, the longest in recent festival history. Almodovar, after accepting the award, emphasized the film’s message about the right to die with dignity, saying, “I believe that it is the fundamental right of every person to leave this world with dignity and grace.”

Key Awards and Highlights

Best Actress: Nicole Kidman won for her role in the erotic thriller ‘Babygirl’. There she plays a CEO involved in a risky relationship. Unfortunately, Kidman was unable to attend the ceremony due to the recent death of her mother. But she dedicated the award to her.

Best Actor:  Vincent Lyndon won the award for his performance in ‘The Quiet Son’. There he plays a father struggling to keep his son away from extremist influence.

Best Director: Brady Corbett won for “The Brutalist,” a film about the life of a Holocaust survivor.

‘Grand Jury Prize: This was awarded to ‘Vermiglio’ directed by Maura Delpero. Vermiglio is set during World War II and reflects its effects on an isolated community.

The festival, which ran from August 28 to September 7, featured numerous stars on the red carpet, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Lady Gaga, making it one of the most star-studded events in recent memory. “French actress Isabelle Huppert headed the jury and praised the thoughtful handling of significant issues in the competing films.”
